Can you really save money using coupons?

The answer is yes. With a little time and effort you can definitely save money using coupons and matching them up to the deals at your local supermarket. One of my biggest money saving tips is double coupons. I primarily shop at Stop and Shop and the receipt above is my 2010 savings as of today. Did you know that you can double a coupon up to $.99? Also, lots of coupons say right on the top "Do Not Double", but I have found that if I go through the self checkout the coupons still double. So a coupon for $.75 is now worth $1.50. Keep an eye out for those little coupon machines in aisles. They are called blinkies. Grab them now even if you don't think you will use it. You never know when the good sale will pop up.  The other trick is even if a coupon is expired it may still work. I always self checkout. I am huge fan of the scanner gun at Stop and Shop because it has deals built into the scanner and it lets me keep track of how much I am spending. I keep all my coupons past the expiration date and have found clearly by accident that you can still use a coupon even if it is expired. I haven't tried it at a cashier, but most of them have worked through the self scanner. I hope to be able to provide more tips and tricks as I work on this blog. I want to help as many people as I can learn how to save on the things they need.
